Presentation: Window Sprinklers, Water Curtains & Other Special Sprinklers

This presentation will go through the various options to utilize sprinklers in lieu of fire rated construction. We will discuss the appropriate use of window sprinklers and how they should be applied, as well as where they would not be a viable option. A review of the other scenarios in which sprinklers used in a closely spaced configuration are used throughout the codes and standards including atrium enclosures per the IBC. We will also review sprinklers being used around large vertical openings, for exposure protection, and other similar scenarios. We will discuss the challenges to understanding how to implement these similar but different sprinkler arrangements and how the term water curtain has evolved and how it can or cannot be applied for prescriptive code compliance. We will review other special application sprinklers and talk about where they would be utilized properly.
