Presentation: Understanding the Colorado Fire Commission

The Colorado Fire Commission, created in 2019, brings together stakeholders from across Colorado and across disciplines in an effort to address Colorado’s fire problem and its consequences. The work of the Commission allows the state to proactively address fire issues by developing a comprehensive approach that embraces mitigation, prevention, preparedness, and suppression, as well as developing long-term strategies and recommendations on complex fire issues. The Commission’s current focus is on high-risk occupancies, the risks to residents in the Wildland Urban Interface, firefighter training and certification, and addressing our overall approach to wildland fire. This presentation will provide an overview of the Commission's current work as well as how to engage with the Commission on topics of interest.

Guest Presenter: Lisa Pine

Lisa Pine is the Administrator for the Colorado Fire Commission within the Colorado Division of Fire Prevention and Control (DFPC).  She has a M.A. in Geography from the University of Denver and spent 17 years working as an environmental planner before joining the Fire Service.  After 5 years on the line, she moved to DFPC to focus on training firefighters across Colorado and now addressing the structural changes required to meet current and future fire service needs.  She was awarded the Executive Fire Officer designation from the USFA National Fire Academy in 2020.
