PRESENTATION: An Overview of Off-Premise Signaling and Supervising Station Requirements

This course will cover the technologies used to transmit fire alarm signals from the protected premise to the supervising station, along with the requirements found in NFPA 72 for these technologies. We will also discuss where the NFPA 72 requirements end, and where FCC and other regulations apply.

We will also cover the requirements for action taken by the Supervising Station in the event of a fire alarm, supervisory or trouble signal.

SPEAKER: Tom Presnak, CET (Engineering Associate Lead: UL Alarm Certificate Service group)

Tom has been with UL’s  Northbrook Office since 1985.  His duties include performing evaluations and audits of fire alarm contractors and supervising stations across the US.  Tom leads UL’s outreach and support for AHJs and alarm contractors to help them understand UL’s Fire Alarm Certification programs.

He holds NICET Level II certification as a Fire Alarm Technician, and Associate Degree in Fire Science .

Also, represents UL on NFPA 72 Chapter 14 Inspection, Testing & Maintenance.

Tom also spent 12 years as a firefighter/engineer in the suburban Chicago area, and also worked as a Field Representative for Insurance Service Offices for 6yrs.
